Philadelphia Insurance Cos. Appoints 2 New Executives

Philadelphia Insurance Companies, a Bala Cynwyd, Penn.-based property/casualty insurance company for niche markets, announced the hiring of two industry veterans.

The insurer said it has appointed John Sherlock as senior vice president of marketing and Sam Garro as vice president of compliance. Both fill these leadership roles with more than 20 years of experience.

In his new role as senior vice president of marketing, Sherlock will develop growth plans for Philadelphia Insurance Companies’ top 20 agencies, manage executive relationships with global brokers, identify merger & acquisition opportunities, lead the launch of the insurer’s new E&S division, and manage Valley Forge Insurance Brokerage (VFIB).

He previously worked for Chartis as the president of the mid-Atlantic region. Prior to Chartis, Sherlock was a founding managing partner in a joint venture between the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and AIG.

In his role as vice president of compliance, Garro will lead the compliance, regulatory, and audit activities in the company’s underwriting department, including bureau reporting, product development, rate and form filings and producer licensing.

Garro previously worked for OneBeacon as the senior manager of commercial compliance, product management and product development. He also worked as a counsel to the small business unit for OneBeacon. He is a member of the Association of Insurance Compliance Professionals (AICP) and received his CPCU designation in 1995.

Philadelphia Insurance is a commercial property/casualty insurer based in Bala Cynwyd, Penn.
