XL Group Appoints Head of Global Claims in Connecticut

XL Group has hired Andrew Pinkes for the company’s insurance operations as executive vice president, global head of claims. He steps into the position previously held by Paul Tuhy, who has been appointed to XL Group’s aerospace business.

Pinkes will be based in Hartford, Conn. Tuhy will continue to be based in XL’s New York office.

Pinkes joins XL Group from The Hartford, where he most recently served as executive vice president of claims, and president of its Heritage Holdings Inc., a company that manages The Hartford’s domestic and international property and casualty run-off operations. He had joined The Hartford in 2003 as senior vice president of its complex claims group.

His 20-year insurance industry career also includes positions with The Travelers which included the position of senior vice president and general counsel of Traveler’s special liability group where he managed coverage and liability issues related to asbestos, environmental and other complex tort claims.

Tuhy, who has been appointed to lead XL Group’s aerospace business, will manage XL Group’s global aerospace team which provides insurance coverage for a global book of airline business, products manufacturers, general aviation and space risks around the world.

Prior to assuming the global head of claims in 2006, he previously managed XL Group’s claims operations in Continental Europe and Asia, and served as head of claims for North America when he joined XL in 2003. His 30-year insurance career also included positions with Kemper Insurance Company, Reliance National Insurance, Blackmoor Group, Cigna Property and Casualty, Consolidated Adjusters, and Cincinnati Insurance Company.
