The Insurance Library Association of Boston announced that Francis X. Bellotti, vice chairman of the board of the Arbella Insurance Group and of counsel at law firm Mintz Levin, has been named the 2013 Insurance Professional of the Year Award winner.
The award ceremony will take place Oct. 18, 2013, beginning at 11:00 a.m. at the Boston Park Plaza Hotel, 50 Park Plaza at Arlington Street in Boston.
The association said Bellotti was chosen for this award because of his dedication to the insurance industry and the community at large. Bellotti has been a prominent figure in the Massachusetts legal and political community for nearly 40 years. He was elected to public office in 1962 as lieutenant governor of Massachusetts. He later served as attorney general for Massachusetts from 1975 to 1987.
The association said that, among other notable achievements, Bellotti is credited with saving numerous jobs and limiting disruption to the Massachusetts auto insurance industry in 1988 when Kemper Insurance announced it would no longer write auto insurance in Massachusetts.
