The National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies (NAMIC) announced that two Northeast-based member companies, New Jersey Manufacturers Insurance Company and Everett Cash Mutual Insurance Company, will be joining NAMIC’s “Century Club” in recognition of their 100th anniversary.
New Jersey Manufacturers Insurance Company of West Trenton, N.J., was founded in 1913 by factory owners who wanted to purchase insurance from a reliable, local, safety-oriented carrier. More than $5.4 billion has been paid to policyholders as dividends since 1918.
Everett Cash Mutual Insurance Company of Everett, Penn., is the third-largest writer of farm owners insurance in the state. Additionally, 400 independent agents throughout Pennsylvania, Maryland, Indiana, North Carolina, and Virginia represent the company and its more than 50,000 policyholders.
“In the past one hundred years, we’ve seen the Great Depression and more than a few recessions, two World Wars, and more wind and hail storms, tornados, hurricanes, and wildfires than we can count. Through all of that, in good times and bad, these companies have continued to serve their policyholders,” said Charles Chamness, president and CEO of NAMIC.
Six other NAMIC member companies around the country are also joining the “Century Club” this year. They include: Cascade Farmers Mutual Insurance Company in Great Falls, Mont.; Farmers Mutual Fire and Aid Association of Kendall & Kerr Counties, based in Comfort, Texas; Jewelers Mutual Insurance Company of Neenah, Wis.; Richland Farm Mutual Insurance Company of Sidney, Mont.; and Blount County Mutual Fire Insurance Company of Alcoa, Tenn.; and Farmers Mutual of Tennessee, based in Knoxville, Tenn.
The addition of this year’s class brings membership in the Century Club to nearly 680 companies that combined have served policyholders for more than 85,000 years. Five of those have been in business for more than 200 years, and the oldest member, the Philadelphia Contributionship, was founded in 1752 by Benjamin Franklin.
