First you have to mitigate the problem. If your roof is leaking you most get a tarp on it. You must try to stop the loss from getting any worse or any claim will be denied.
Call a public adjuster second. If you are not able to mitigate the loss the public adjuster should have contacts to handle that for you. He can review your policy and make sure you are covered before the insurance is involved. Once you call the insurance it is a claim whether they pay you anything or not. The public Adjuster will handle everything from documentation, appointments and getting you the check.
Do not throw anything away until the claim is settled. The insurance adjuster says OK throw away then a week later says I need to see it again…ooops it is gone so is your claim for it.
Public Adjusters are licensed by the state they work in. Most states insurance adjusters are not. Insurance companies make billions of dollars every year. It is not because they pay out money, it is by keeping as much as they can for the stockholders. Public Adjusters help level the playing field for the home and business owners.
