John Hancock never paid a lousy 5,000. Life policy that my father and mother paid on for years. Where do you go when they said they would need a policy number and I don’t have any policy number. My father died in 1993 and my mother could have used the money…. I think its criminal. Can some one give me some info on how to reach John Hancock????

This used to be a great company. They began to go downhill in the ’70s. Things really began getting bad around the time they began talking about de-mutualization. Customer service is a horror for various reasons but primarily because, it seems, most of the CSRs don’t know what they are talking about. However, you certainly should try to get life insurance proceeds due you. Call them at 1-800-732-5543. If that doesn’t get you anywhere contact the insurance department in your state as well as Massachusetts. Good Luck.

Robert I think you have to prove that there was an actual policy. If you have any old checking acoount statements then the policy number should be on the cancelled checks. If it was an old industrial life policy with cash payments then you should get the name of the John Hancock agent and have the company search the records.

If you have any old John Hancock advertising gifts to policyholders then they might be a clue to the type of policy and the date of it.

Martha Coakley got $125000 out of them and that money should have gone to customers not politicians. Maybe she could spare 10k, 5k for the policy plus 5k interest.
