Section of Roof at Vacant Boston Expo Center Collapses

March 5, 2015

Authorities say no one was injured when a portion of the roof of Boston’s vacant Bayside Expo Center collapsed.

The Boston Fire Department responded to the building at about 7:30 a.m. Wednesday.

The roof section that collapsed was about 100 feet by 100 feet.

The building is unoccupied and is slated for demolition.

A section of roof and wall collapsed at a Hyde Park industrial park near the Dedham line, taking down three utility poles. No one was hurt.

A partial roof collapse was also reported at a Wareham tire store at 4:15 a.m. No one was inside.

Nearly 200 roof collapses have been reported to state emergency management officials since Feb. 9, most due to the weight of snow. The region received about 2 inches of heavy wet snow Tuesday.
