Typical Jersey shenanigans. Probably included $500 for the Governor’s fleece.

Perhaps the red tape disappeared after Christie gave the President a big hug.

“Repairs were initially estimated at $5.5 million”. “$7 million grant it gave” FEMA’s math skills are a bit wanting. Not saying Spring Lake couldn’t have documented better but if you ask for 5 and someone gives you 7, are you going to argue? FEMA handed out money like it was free to people who asked, never checking to see if they were entitled. Then they ran out of money for the people who should have received it from the start. How about if the inspector general starts the audit process closer to home?

$7M for a $5.5M job? Perhaps the inspector general should audit a bit closer to home. No wonder FEMA ran out of money to pay the people who truly were entitled to it.

      Arthur,
Did you have a flood insurance policy or were you looking for a handout? If you had a policy and had the garage listed, you should get paid.
FEMA should not accept all the discrepancies. If they cannot prove the equipment exits or the labor was performed, they should collect that money back as well. Too many times political corruption is overlooked by fellow politicians.

Jack, when Katrina happened, FEMA had people in New Orleans handing out $2,000 checks like candy. Then, they helped people move to other cities, set them up in apartments and as far as I know, many may still be in those apartments and never moved back to New Orleans. By the way, these people getting the benefits never heard of Flood Insurance.

Agent – are you saying what FEMA did (giving people $2,000 on a debit card meant for basics like food and clothes) should not have been done? I understand there was a lot of fraud and misappropriation of funds where victims spent their money on non-essentials, and that was a major problem, but I don’t understand what you were trying to say about FEMA handing out those funds: was that written with a negative or positive connotation?
