Sorry Officer, I can’t show you my insurance ID Card because: my cell phone battery is dead; My phone is broken; I lost my phone; it’s my friend’s car so I don’t have an ID Card to show you;
Here’s a novel idea, put the paper ID Card in your car glove compartment when you get your Renewal once or twice a year – Problem solved. (Even if a paper ID Card is “greatly inefficient”!)
Heh Heh! Well, no maps or gloves in there – just vehicle registration, flashlight, pen, gum, and paper insurance ID card (needed for when I offer my car up for Car Sharing!!!). Don’t even know why we need ID cards, in NYS anyways, since with the mandatory DMV IIES program the cops know if your insurance has lapsed or expired before they get out of their patrol car. The paper ID Cards aren’t worth the paper their printed on!
Question – are the electronic ID cards generally PDF’s or images on your phone? Or are they “live on-demand” from the Insurance Company website? (so if your insurance lapsed, it wouldn’t display the ID Card.)
So I’ll voluntarily hand my phone over to a police officer to view my ID card and trust he won’t check to see if I was texting, talking, or using some other app at the time he pulled me over. Yeah… right… I’ll stick with the paper.

That’s good, you keep that paper ID card in your Studebaker’s glove box. You know, next to your map.

Um, don’t do anything to get pulled over. I cant wait for the African Americans that start with the ‘I Get Pulled Over Cause I’m Black’ nonsense.
