I’m frankly torn on this one, though. While I’m not fond of legislating behavior I’d just as soon not see kids subjected to breathing cigarette smoke in such a confined space.
Whether these bills come from Republicans or Democrats, we ALL should be outraged by this invasive overreach into our private lives.
It’s not about secondhand smoke. It’s about privacy. Personal responsibility needs to reign supreme on the part of the adults that are sucking down these cancer sticks. They need to know better and exercise common sense. Until tobacco is made an illegal substance, the government should have no business forcing their way into our private property.
Based on this post, I am assuming you are pro-choice. If not, why do we need the government to protect the unborn, but not living and breathing children who also have no choice?
The problem with making this a personal responsibility issue is that their behavior negatively impacts others, not just themselves.
In addition, I am guessing you are also against invading the privacy of Muslims, even if they are plotting to kill innocent Americans, right?
Why is smoking still legal? Is there any other product on the market that is this dangerous and still legal? I am a smoker, long term. I have tried every single method available to quit and the most time I have been successful is 6 months and 40lbs. It is a serious battle. But seriously think about it, and don’t say thousands of people would loose their jobs. That really isn’t a good enough excuse as to why it is still legal. People, it’s money and most likely government money. While they pass laws stating you can’t smoke here, there or any where and basically diminish you to being slime in societies eyes, there hasn’t been one person to outlaw this most dangerous, cancer causing addictive products. Let’s see what kind of bull*#@! you all reply with.
I’ve never heard of “second hand smoke exposure” listed on a death certificate.
It’s a shame a Republican sponsored this legislation that inserts big govt into our private lives in this way.
I hear you, Wayne. They list “lung cancer” instead.
ZING!

C’mon science deniers, no such thing as second hand smoke, right? This is just taking away someone’s freedom to enjoy a Marlboro, right?

If an illegal immigrant in Virginia were smoking in a car with a kid passenger, would that be illegal ?
