Prosecute these guys to the fullest extent of the law and disband all fraternities on this and many other campuses. Absolutely no excuse for this and it is obvious they don’t know right from wrong.
I agree this is a horrible and preventable tragedy and those who were complicit in this individual’s death should be prosecuted. However, there are many fraternities across the country that provide societal and interpersonal benefits and aren’t centered around drugs and/or alcohol. Banning all frat’s, even the good ones, because of the actions of other ones is a little extreme in my opinion.
If there was a ban on all fraternities, would you also expect a ban on all sororities too?
I actually agree with 90% of your statement, except the disbanding of ALL frats. There are plenty of legitimate professional and service fraternities that are completely dry and comprised of good kids. They are responsible for THON, an annual dance marathon that raises millions of dollars for kids with cancer (look it up; it’s a fantastic event and has made a huge difference in many lives). Penn State has cracked down on social fraternities big time, and will continue to do so. The frat scene wasn’t my scene when I was there, personally, but I also don’t think you should punish the masses for the idiocy of a few.
You were absolutely correct that there is no excuse for this, Agent, and those who participated clearly did not know right from wrong, though in this case there actually were a few who tried to intervene and got overruled.. It’s an absolute tragedy, and I can’t imagine ever getting a call like Tim’s parents did. Unfortunately, the most serious of all charges have now been dropped, so those most responsible will not face the punishment they should.
Have a great night. Happy Easter to everyone who celebrates it, and a great weekend overall to those who do not.
It isn’t a debate if you agree with someone Rosenblatt. Progressives tend to stick together just like Conservatives do.
By the way, how many stories of Fraternity hazing and subsequent injuries or illnesses do you need to pass judgement and condemn that behavior. By the way, how many Spring Break tragedies committed by Fraternity and Sorority kids do you need? Happens all the time. Do you not know right from wrong either?
“Still looking forward to debating you” is written using the future tense. I didn’t write “I enjoy debating you” because I’m **still looking forward to it***

I also wrote “it’s not going to be on this thread” meaning I know he and I agree on this topic. How the firetruck did you sincerely think I was saying I’m currently in debate with him? Seriously. I’d love to know.

When you make an argument, you can’t run on presumptions of one example, you have to go by analytics of larger numbers.
I find it hypocritical that the republicans of the thread call for the disbanding of ALL fraternities because of continuous problems involving hazing and alcohol related deaths. Yet, still fervently against any action to reduce gun violence in schools by removing the guns!
Especially since most of these Frat problems could be avoided if the individual said no, or decided to not drink themselves to death.
Don’t get me wrong, the group of kids in question in this Penn State case acted poorly and absolutely helped lead to the death of their peer. But, all could have been avoided if the 1 person displayed some self control.

They are all pretty much worthless. Nice word parse and nice try.
Using Agent’s logic, we should ban all agencies because of the fraud that has been promulgated by a few agents.

Still looking forward to debating you, sal, but it’s not going to be on this thread :) Well said.
Ha! You and I tend to agree on much more than we don’t.
Take care!

Painting with a broad brush again, are you?
