Shouldn’t homeowners who have sustained damage to their homes been encouraged to file claims under their homeowner’s insurance coverage? Seems to me most policies would provide full replacement cost coverage for the structure and personal property in addition to additional living expenses incurred while the home was being repaired. The response from their own insurer should be quicker and more personal than one from the utility handling thousands of claims.
In addition, homeowners coverage would provide ” new for old” coverage while the utility’s responsibility may be limited to the “actual cash value” of the damage. I didn’t see that issue covered in any of the articles I read, including this one.
Agreed. Let the subrogation begin! Also, at least Columbia admitted fault and is paying. I am still angry about CA Gov. Jerry Brown just signing the bill to protect PG+E (which I wrongly predicted he would not sign).
