The owners of a Vermont bar settled a case Monday with a woman who was accidentally shot in the lung outside their establishment in 2018.
Chelsi Parker, 26, and the owners of Nectar’s bar in Burlington resolved a lawsuit through a confidential agreement, according to a joint statement from their lawyers.
Parker filed a lawsuit against the bar in January, alleging staff negligence was the reason for her life-altering injuries.
Burlington police said Rashad Nashid, 31, was firing his gun into the crowd outside Nectar in February 2018 when one of the bullets hit Parker in the chest.
Officials said a bouncer had confiscated Nashid’s gun earlier in the night when he saw him and two other patrons exchanging threats. The bouncer did not report it to police and returned the gun to Nashid when he left the bar.
Nashid, a convicted felon, is prohibited from possessing a gun. He pleaded guilty to federal weapons charges but is also charged at the state level with reckless endangerment and aggravated assault.
The Vermont Liquor and Lottery Board suspended Nectar’s license for two days after it was determined to have violated licensing rules in connection with the shooting.
