Utica National Provides Insurance Premium Payback to Personal Auto Customers

As a result of changing driving habits due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the member companies of the Utica National Insurance Group have announced that they will provide policyholders with a 15 percent payback of their personal auto insurance premiums for April and May 2020, pending state approval.

The one-time payback will appear as a credit on customers’ upcoming billing statements. Those who have paid their balance in full will receive the payback by check.

“Life has changed in many ways as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, and one such change is that our customers are driving less, resulting in fewer accidents and repair costs,” said Joe Meyer, Utica National’s senior vice president of Personal Lines, in a company press release. “We want people to be safe and healthy, which means sheltering in place and driving less. The payback is a way to respond to that and lend a hand if folks are experiencing a financial hardship during these difficult times.”

Meyer noted that the company is also temporarily expanding coverage under customers’ personal auto policies to include delivery coverage. Coverage has automatically been extended to include drivers on these policies who use a vehicle currently listed on the policies to deliver food and/or medicine. This applies to any losses that arise out of such deliveries that occur between March 16, 2020 and June 1, 2020.

Utica National Insurance Group offers personal auto coverage in Connecticut, New York, North Carolina, Ohio and Virginia. The Utica Mutual Insurance Company, the principal company of the group, was founded in 1914 and is headquartered in New Hartford, N.Y., with eleven offices.
