Storm Damages New Hampshire Cottages, Creates Waterspout Over Lake

August 25, 2020

A strong storm damaged vacation cottages on New Hampshire’s Lake Winnipesaukee Saturday.

The fast-moving system brought strong winds and heavy rain and created a waterspout over the lake.

WMUR-TV reports that at Clearwater Lodges in Wolfeboro, two cottages were destroyed and others were damaged when trees fell in the storm. No injuries were reported.

The waterspout was observed north of Moose Island on Lake Winnipesaukee.

“I started to see just like clouds swirling and then we sort of, my father pointed out the waterspout coming down from the sky and touching down,” 17-year-old Ethan Van De Water told the station. Van De Water recorded the spout on video.

Forecasters had placed the area under a tornado warning earlier Saturday. WMUR reports that the National Weather Service planned to dispatch a team to Wolfeboro on Sunday to inspect damage.
