A New Jersey man has been charged with insurance fraud after an investigation revealed he failed to pay the correct premiums to insure his commercial vehicle and deprived his employees of proper insurance coverage.
Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes announced the arrest of Densy Hidalgo, age 50, of Passaic, New Jersey, for insurance fraud, a third degree crime.
The investigation was conducted by the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office Insurance Fraud Unit. It revealed that a commercial van registered to Hidalgo’s company D.H. Transportation was involved in a motor vehicle accident on the New Jersey Turnpike, in which personal injuries were sustained.
Detectives learned that Hidalgo insured the vehicle with a personal instead of a commercial insurance policy. As a result, Hidalgo failed to pay Farmers Insurance Company the correct premiums to insure a commercial vehicle and deprived D.H. Transport employees of proper insurance coverage.
The sentencing exposure for third degree insurance fraud in New Jersey is three to five years to be served in New Jersey State Prison. Hidalgo was charged on a complaint/summons and was released pending a court hearing scheduled for April 19, 2021.
A criminal complaint is merely an accusation. Despite this accusation, the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
