Covered Bridge Fire Declared Arson in Maine

August 4, 2021

A fire that destroyed one of Maine’s nine covered bridges has been declared an arson, the fire marshal’s office said.

A local business put up a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrests of those responsible for the destruction of the Watson Settlement Bridge, officials said.

The bridge, built in 1911, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It was destroyed by a fire on July 19. Little was left except the frame.

The fire marshal’s office is still investigating.
