“The proposal will be devastating to many immigrants and their families by taking away their livelihood and will harm Maine employers who need more qualified workers in the workforce,” Secretary of State Shenna Bellows commented. adding that there is already a shortage of qualified CDL drivers….”

Bellows should summon the courage to tell that, face-to-face, to the families of victims of fatal accidents involving immigrants, legal or illegal, who caused accidents largely due to being unable to read traffic signs or understand traffic flows on one-way streets.

All CDL operators should be able to read road signs in english and come to our country legally. I feel for both sides here, but if you cannot read or speak english, you should not be behind the wheel of a semi-truck or any vehicle for that matter. I spent time in Hondouras and the stop sign–“it’s just suggested” that you stop. If we continue to allow poor driving behaviors wether you are a legal resident or not, our insurance rates will continue to skyrocket. Everyone needs to be a good citizen and practice safe driving habits when behind the wheel of any vehicle. Look at the increase in road rage incidents, speeding, texting etc. We need to do better America!!!
