Stirling Cooke Names New London Managing Director

Bermuda-based international broker Stirling Cooke Brown Holdings Ltd. has named Anthony C. McCallum as the new head of its London reinsurance intermediary operations.

McCallum joins Stirling Cooke two years after numerous lawsuits were filed against the company, arising from its involvement in placing coverage for the Unicover workers compensation reinsurance pool.

A new management team, headed by CEO Stephen A. Crane, was installed in November 1999, and has been working on reestablishing Sterling Cooke’s reputation and rebuilding its business.

McCallum, who has been with Marsh Inc. subsidiaries C.T. Bowring and Guy Carpenter as well as Jardine Lloyd Thompson, brings 24 years of experience to the the London office.

“By recruiting Tony, we are also sending a very clear message as to how we will conduct ourselves in the London market — with integrity and the highest of professional standards,” Crane stated. “With our success in filling this key position, the Company has now completed a total overhaul of management that began two years ago. In this regard, I can say without hesitation that this is an entirely new Company with a bright future,” he added.
