June 5, 2002

The 38th annual seminar of the International Insurance Society (IIS) will be held at the Shangri-La, in Singapore, July 14-17.

Some 400 senior insurance executives from 50 nations are scheduled to attend the meeting which will feature 20 global chief executives, “who will explore topics ranging from capital and risk in the insurance business, to customer relationships, and effective corporate branding. Original research on insurance topics will be presented as well.”

Patrick Kenny, IIS president and CEO, indicated that the conference is one of the largest multi-national gatherings of its kind in the world. “The insurance industry is experiencing strategic and operational problems, including decreasing margins, increasing competition from unconventional sources, and more demanding stakeholders. Throw into that the greater risk environment we operate in and you have some big subjects to tackle at a meeting like ours,” Kenny explained.

Some of the main topics to be covered in the meeting include:
* Managing Risk and Financing Expansion
* Leveraging and Preserving Brands
* Changing Requirements of Customer Relationships
* Best Practices in Insurance

An impressive list of presenters includes Richard Harvey, Group Chief Executive of CGNU; Edmund Kelly, Chairman, President and CEO of Liberty Mutual; Saxon Riley, Chairman of Lloyd’s; Ewald Kist, Chairman of the Executive Board of ING; Kees J. Storm, Chairman of the Executive Board of AEGON; Patricia L. Guinn, Managing Director Worldwide, Tillinghast-Towers Perrin, and Chris Giles, Managing Director, Asia-Pacific for Chubb Insurance.
