Bob Bullivant New Managing Director of CII, SOFA

The U.K.’s Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) announced the appointment of Bob Bullivant as the new managing director of the Society of Financial Advisers (SOFA) – the CII’s financial services arm – effective Feb. 23. He replaces Brian Lawless who has relocated to live in Exeter and become business development director with the Jelf Group.

Bullivant has been in the industry for 30 years both as an IFA and as a director of life companies. Prior to joining Britannic Retirement Solutions he was managing director of a medium sized IFA firm in London where he quadrupled turnover in 6 years.

CII director general Sandy Scott commented, “Bob is a highly respected figure in the financial services industry and will bring considerable technical and market knowledge to both SOFA and to the CII director team. A key aspect of his role will be to build on the success of SOFA and to develop the value of its membership proposition.”

Bullivant is an Associate member of SOFA (ASFA), a Fellow of the CII (FCII) and a Chartered Insurance Practitioner. He joins SOFA from Britannic Retirement Solutions where he was corporate development director. Commenting on his appointment he indicated that “The task ahead of me is to ensure that SOFA membership is seen as the gold standard by financial advisers, consumers, commentators and policy makers. I have always believed in the value that a professional body can bring to its membership. As the CII’s financial services arm, SOFA is the largest professional body for financial advisers I relish the challenge of building upon its successes to date.”

SOFA chairman Nick Bamford said he was delighted that Bullivant had decided to take up the important position of managing director. He noted that in “a highly technical financial services world it is crucial that we have a polished technician to lead the Society into the future and Bob offers exactly that.”
