AIU Underwrites ScanAlert’s Japan Hacker Coverage

Napa Calif.-based ScanAlert announced that AIU Insurance Japan, a division of AIG and the largest foreign-affiliated P/C insurer in Japan, is underwriting a new hacker insurance program for all “HACKER SAFE” certified web sites in the country.

“The policy extends the protection web site owners receive from ScanAlert’s security service by covering financial loss in the unlikely event that their site suffers actual damages due to theft of personal information by hackers,” said the announcement. Coverage is being made available to all Japanese “HACKER SAFE” web sites at no additional cost due to their greatly reduced vulnerability to hackers.

AIU’s policy covers Personal Information Theft Insurance up to 5,000,000 Yen (approx. $50,000) in damages. It’s “automatically included in HACKER SAFE certification services offered through Sanwa Comtec Co. Ltd., the exclusive HACKER SAFE distributor in Japan,” said the bulletin.

ScanAlert also said it is “planning to make similar insurance coverage available to its customers in other regions, including the United States, Asia, and Europe.”
