The Dutch have rejected the EU Constitution because (1) they fear excessive immigration, (2) they resent unbridled bureaucracy, (3) they desire to keep the right of euthansia, (4) they desire to maintain the decriminalization of marijuana, 5) they don’t have a problem with same sex marriage, and (6) they cherish personal freedoms over state mandated interference.
Yet, here in the “Land of the Free”, we seem inclined to support either the “social engineering” idiocy of the Left or the “neo-con/evangelical” fanaticism of the Right, even though we have a Libertarian Party through which we could all reclaim our American birthright.
I’m afraid that Holland, today, would also refuse to ratify even the US Constitution in view of the complete mess we’ve made of things and the obvious fact that Americans seem to have lost sight of those traits which made us so great – freedom, truth, objectivity, and productivity.
