Laker Appointed Assistant VP of ACORD in London

International standards provider ACORD announced the appointment of Roy Laker as Assistant Vice President, London Market. His “role will be to coordinate the activities in the London market of ACORD’s various operations units: Standards, Communications, Membership Development, and Legal, Industry & Government Affairs,” said the announcement. He will also take on special projects and serve as a liaison between ACORD senior management and London Market participants.

“Roy has been active in the London Market Reform activities and is bringing that wealth of knowledge and experience to ACORD,” stated Gregory A. Maciag, ACORD’s president and CEO. “His extensive working knowledge of the industry and of the Reform efforts will be an asset for ACORD as we work to support our members within the London Market.”

Laker has more than 35 years experience in the IT industry. He has worked with all with major organizations in the insurance and reinsurance sectors. “His involvement in London Market business and IT reform projects over the past 18 years have provided him with an in-depth knowledge of the business processes and issues within the London insurance market,” said the bulletin.

“Laker comes to ACORD from Microgen where he had company director responsibilities,” the announcement continued. “In a consulting capacity from Microgen, he has served since 2001 as Programme Director of the London Market Principles (LMP) Office which has been spearheading modernization of insurance/reinsurance business processes in London. He has been actively involved in the development of ACORD’s Global Placing Document standard. He has been involved in many aspects of the development of international standards for insurance.”
