XL Insurance Names New Country Manager, Deputy for UK and Ireland

Clive Tobin, chief executive responsible for XL Capital Ltd’s insurance operations, reported further organizational changes within XL’s UK office.

Donal Kelly, who has been with the XL group for six years, has been appointed country manager and deputy chief operating officer for the UK and Ireland regions. He replaces Eileen McCusker who is now chief operating officer for the UK and Ireland regions. Kelly will report to McCusker in his new role. McCusker, who in her former role also had management responsibility for Scandinavia, will retain responsibility for that region.

Prior to his new position, Kelly was in charge of Client Relationship Management for the UK and Ireland with responsibility for the Sales and Marketing function in the region. He joined the XL group in February 2000 when he was appointed as vice president for XL Europe Ltd’s London Business Unit. Prior to joining the XL group, Kelly spent 13 years with America International Group’s Bermuda and London operations where he was responsible for managing the department handling AIG’s major global captive programmes.

Tobin also announced that Dermot O’Donohoe, chief underwriting officer of XL Insurance’s Specialty Operations, is expected to assume the position of active underwriter following the resignation of Paul Drake, active underwriter of XL’s Lloyd’s Syndicate 1209. O’Donohoe’s appointment is subject to the necessary XL London Market Ltd. Board and regulatory approvals.

O’Donohoe joined XL in 1991 as a Professional Lines underwriter and progressed to chief underwriting officer before becoming president and chief executive officer of XL Europe Ltd. and CEO of XL Insurance Company Ltd. in December 2002. He has been a member of the XL Insurance Executive Board since 2004.
