Fitch to Hold Teleconference on Insurance Brokers Tuesday

Fitch Ratings will hold a will hold a teleconference to discuss the outlook for the Insurance brokerage industry, on Tuesday, Jan. 15. Fitch said it would specifically discuss the “prospects for publicly traded brokers Marsh & McLennan (MMC), Willis (WSH) and Aon Corporation (AON), among others.”

The Jan. 15 conference call, scheduled for 11 A.M. EST, will coincide with Fitch’s recently released Outlook report on the Insurance broker industry, ‘Review and Outlook 2007-2008: Insurance Broker Industry.’ The study is available at: www.fitchratings.com under Financial Institutions then Insurance then Special Reports.

Fitch said it “believes that insurance brokerage industry, having absorbed the most damaging effects of the industry investigations of 2004, has emerged from a period of intense scrutiny and reduced earnings visibility with leaner, more transparent business models. As a result, the brokers may now be better equipped to deal with the challenges of deteriorating insurance market conditions and intense competition that will reward financial flexibility and discipline.”

The rating agency also noted that “while industry profitability and operating margins will not return to levels reported in the early 2000s, broker operating performance in 2007 will be modestly better than 2006, largely due to the larger brokers adapting to the elimination of contingent commissions.”
