This is 2008 and people have to worry about freakin’PIRATES? All they need to do to put an end to this ******** is form a flotilla and arm it to the teeth. This would discourage attacks by pirates. If they did attack one of the vessels, the entire flotilla could defend itself and send these jerks to meet Jesus.
There are simply some issues/situations that don’t warrant tact/diplomacy/policitacl correctness. Those traits typically don’t evoke much emotion hence issues/problems continue to exist because we want to “make nice” with everybody in the world. If more people had as passionate a response to some issues/problems we wouldn’t have as many. You should be happy I’m in a good mood today.
Perhaps the best way to protect the ships going into this area is to include a submarine that will run the area & when a ship is calling for help prior to a Piracy attack, have the sub come to the rescue. After they sink a few Pirates, there will be less of them to continue their operations. Let the sub sink the Pirate ships & pop out inflateable rafts for any that do not want to go down with their ship & call the coast guard to do a rescue of them & they can be hauled directly to Guantanamo Bay for an extended stay!

The reason the pirates have moved is because of increased patrols & arrests in the Malacca Straights. I agree, blow them out of the water!
