Willis Appoints Sampaio Brazil CEO

Willis Group Holdings has appointed José Otávio Sampaio as CEO for Willis Brazil, which it described as “one of the biggest growth areas for the global insurance broker.” He will report to Eugenio Paschoal, CEO, Willis Latin America and former CEO of Willis Brazil.

Sampaio joined Willis in 1989 as a risk surveyor, and in 1995 took over as General Manager for Willis’ Rio de Janeiro branch. In 1997, he was nominated Statutory Director for Willis Brazil, and then served as Vice President for Willis Brazil. He has been acting as interim CEO of Willis Brazil since Paschoal became regional CEO in November 2007.

Paschoal noted that Sampaio’s reputation, experience and skills qualify him to “lead our Brazilian team and make Willis the pre-eminent global broker in the region.” Sarah Turvill, Chairman of Willis International, praised his “local knowledge and exemplary leadership skills,” indicating that he “will continue the momentum of our double-digit growth in Brazil, which is one of the major contributors to our success in Latin America.”
