Glencairn Energy Appoints Pickering Deputy Chairman

Glencairn, the Property, Casualty, Accident and Health broker within Faber & Dumas, the third-party wholesale insurance broker of the Willis Group, announced that Tony Pickering has joined Glencairn Energy as Deputy Chairman, effective immediately, reporting to its Chief Executive Alan Brooks.

“Pickering began his career at UK insurance broker C.T. Bowring,” the bulletin said, “but is perhaps better known for being one of the founders of Jenner Fenton Slade Ltd, an insurance and reinsurance broker that specialized in placing coverages for companies in the international energy and petrochemical industries. Pickering went on to form Agnew Higgins Pickering, an independently managed Lloyd’s broker that focused entirely on energy-related business.”

Willis also pointed out that “Glencairn Energy was established in February this year. At the same time, Global Special Risks (GSR), a leading US excess and surplus lines broker serving the Energy industry, joined the Faber & Dumas stable. GSR is well-known in the industry for offering an exclusive Upstream Energy insurance product, Wellsure®.”

Brooks welcomed Pickering to Glencairn, indicating that he “was responsible for bringing me into the broking world from risk management and is the first of a series of high profile hires that we intend to make. His experience in the sector generally and in building companies will be invaluable as we move forward.”

Pickering noted: “there is clearly a need for an independent energy specialist following a bout of M&A activity in the broking sector, and I look forward to working with Alan to build a world-class broking capability to meet that need. Having competed before with GSR and their Wellsure facility, I have the utmost respect for their capabilities. They provide a strong foundation for Glencairn Energy as we expand our team of leading specialists here in London.”
