Blunt to Head New Sportscover Specialty Lines Division

Lloyd’s insurer Sportscover – Syndicate 3334 – announced that “as part of its continuing diversification into specialist areas of business,” it will launch a specialty lines division, effective on the 5th of April 2012.

“The new division will initially comprise the existing bloodstock and contingency lines of business with Robin Blunt, Senior Underwriter, heading up the team, supported by Ben Wiggins and Ally Halstead,” the bulletin said.

It also explained that “Blunt’s considerable market experience means Sportscover can continue to develop the syndicate’s presence and profile in the existing contingency and bloodstock market and focus on delivering innovative insurance solutions in other specialist areas.

“Ben Wiggins will assume the position of Contingency Underwriter and take on the day to day responsibility for the contingency portfolio. Ally Halstead will continue in her current role, supporting the team across both classes.”

Blunt noted that, although he is now primarily a Bloodstock Underwriter, he is nonetheless “looking forward to the new role,” as he has “a wide and varied experience across specialty lines of business including contingency, and so I am looking forward to the new challenge of heading up the team immensely.”

Murray Anderson, Active Underwriter for syndicate 3334, commented: “We have enjoyed tremendous support from brokers over the past few years, enabling us to build a significant and growing book of contingency business. Sportscover are always looking at opportunities to develop other areas of business and so it is therefore logical to bring these specialist lines under one roof.”

The bulletin pointed out that the “advent of the new division represents an important step in the evolution of the syndicate’s operations and will provide the foundation for future expansion into other complementary areas.”

Sportscover provides sports and leisure insurance services to groups and individuals with offices in London, Melbourne, Sydney, Shanghai, and the Pacific Islands, drawing on a worldwide broker network. It “specializes in accident, liability, property, contingency and travel insurances for sport and leisure.

“As a Lloyd’s syndicate, SCS 3334 benefits from Lloyd’s market rating and is the only A rated dedicated sports and leisure insurer in the world. Sportscover’s main underwriting operations comprise Sportscover Underwriting Ltd, Syndicate 3334, Sportscover Australia Pty Ltd, Sportscover Europe Ltd., Sportscover Insurance Ltd, SCI Capital Ltd.”
