South to Head Marsh’s Combined Asia-Pacific; Piccolomini Continental Europe

Marsh has embarked on a major reordering of its regional activities, which it said is “in order to align the delivery of its global capabilities more closely to the needs of clients around the world.” Marsh has combined its Asia and Pacific regions and has appointed a dedicated leader for a new Continental Europe, Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), and Turkey region.

Martin South has been appointed CEO of Marsh Asia-Pacific. He will be based in Singapore and will take up his position on January 1. The bulletin noted South’s “successful track record of growing businesses and improving profitability, including in his previous roles as CEO of Marsh Europe and CEO of Marsh UK.”

Flavio Piccolomini has been appointed to the new role of CEO of Marsh Continental Europe, CIS, and Turkey, in addition to his current responsibilities as CEO of Marsh Italy.

Marsh also underscored the importance of the UK to the broker’s global activities, announcing that Mark Weil, the recently-appointed CEO of Marsh UK & Ireland, will now, along with both South and Piccolomini, “report directly to David Batchelor, President of Marsh’s International Division.”

Batchelor commented: “By bringing Marsh’s Asia and Pacific regions together, which is consistent with our external reporting, we can better capitalize on the tremendous opportunities to serve the growing needs of clients in this vibrant region. The appointment of a dedicated leader for Continental Europe, CIS, and Turkey will bring additional focus to the growing risk challenges our clients face across this geography.

“Both Martin and Flavio are proven leaders with justified reputations for building strong customer-focused organizations. They are well equipped to drive innovation and push these important regions to reach their full potential.”

Marsh also announced that John Clayton will continue as Head of the Pacific zone and CEO of Marsh in Australia with a brief to leverage the capabilities of the Pacific across the Asia-Pacific region.

Alan Cheah will step down from his current role as head of Asia to become country leader for Singapore, while continuing as Chairman of Marsh’s Southeast Asia operations. Both he and Clayton will report to South. “As CEO of Marsh Asia, Alan has successfully led the continued growth of this vital market, while adding immense value to the firm and our clients. He will work closely with Martin to help shape the new Asia-Pacific region,” Batchelor added.
