Goodearl Joins XL from Liberty Mutual for Lloyd’s Business

The XL Group has appointed Lewis Goodearl as Chief Underwriting Officer UK P&C for its Lloyd’s business. He joins XL from Liberty Mutual Insurance where he was Vice President and Wholesale Manager, responsible for the profitable development of the account.

Gavin Bruce-Smythe, Chief Underwriting Officer, International P&C insurance at XL Group, cited Goodearl’s “diverse experience gained over twenty years in the insurance industry and extensive understanding of the UK primary market,” as positioning “him well for this role. He has a proven track record in writing Lloyd’s wholesale construction business and has also carved out a niche writing motor sports and leisure risks over the years.”

Goodearl has expertise in writing construction risks, which XL said fits with its “strategy to serve UK construction industry clients. Contributing 8 percent of GDP and employing 2.47 million people across its supply chain, the UK construction industry continues to be one of the country’s most important economic sectors.”

Goodearl also worked at ACE Europe, formally CIGNA Insurance Company of Europe, where he started his career in 1991.

XL also announced that it has further strengthened its “London-based P&C team with the transfer of Ben Patrick, currently Underwriting Manager, Casualty Middle Market for Australia’s Southern / Western Region.” He has been with XL Group since 2011 and will be based in London from January 2014.
