Maritzen to Head New Endurance U.S. Commercial Property Operation

Bermuda-based Endurance Specialty Holdings Ltd. announced that Mark Maritzen has joined the company as Executive Vice President and Head of Commercial Property within its U.S. Insurance operation.

He has nearly twenty years of experience in the insurance industry in both underwriting and broker roles. Maritzen will be responsible for building and leading a new property team with a focus on retail distribution channels.

He is joined by Sharon Herbert, Vice President, Commercial Property, who also has twenty years of experience in this market. Maritzen is based in Endurance’s New York City office, reporting to Doug Worman, CEO of US Insurance, with a secondary reporting line to Richard Housley, Global Insurance Property Leader.

Worman cited Maritzen’s experience in the U.S. property market and his “wide network across the broker community” as critical factors in building Endurance’s “presence in this market.”

He also explained that the “new property unit complements our existing U.S. wholesale portfolio and is a significant step in the expansion of our integrated global property capabilities.”

Maritzen joins Endurance from Tokio Marine Global where he was Senior Vice President, Head of U.S. Property. Prior to that, he held a series of management positions at Guy Carpenter in New York from 2005 through 2011, culminating in the role of Managing Director, Head of Guy Carpenter Broking Inc.

He began his career at Gerling Insurance and then served as a property broker at Marsh from 1998 through 2005. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce Legal degree from the University of Johannesburg, South Africa.
