Amlin Appoints Few as Global Managing Director of Reinsurance

June 22, 2015

London-based Amlin has appointed James Few as global managing director of reinsurance, effective from August 1, 2015, subject to regulatory approval.

He will be supported by Christian Bieri, who continues to lead Amlin’s reinsurance business in the EMEA region, as well as Dominic Peters and Robert Wyatt who jointly lead the North American and international regions.

Few joins from Aspen Re, where he was chief executive officer and a founding member of the Aspen team. He was the principal architect of Aspen Re and was responsible for $1.2 billion of gross written premium covering property, casualty and specialty products in Europe, Bermuda, the U.S., Asia and Latin America.

He brings with him a wealth of experience in executing a global strategy and growing a successful reinsurance business over a number of international platforms, as well as implementing Aspen’s venture into managed funds – an experience which sits well in the context of Amlin’s initiative with Leadenhall Capital Partners. LCP is an investment manager in (re)insurance linked securities which Amlin established in joint venture with individual partners in 2008.

Simon Beale, chief underwriting officer said: “I am delighted to be able to welcome James to Amlin and believe his expertise will prove extremely valuable to our reinsurance business as we look to implement our longer term strategic objectives to enhance our offering.”

“Amlin’s vision is to be the global reference point for quality in our markets and I believe we will achieve this ambition due to our strong foundations, superior financial strength and the caliber of our people,” said Charles Philipps, chief executive. “James will be an excellent addition to Amlin’s leadership team and I know that he will ensure our reinsurance business is well positioned for the future.”

Amlin plc is an independent global insurer with operations in the Lloyd’s, continental European and Bermudian markets.
