ACE Appoints Stapleton VP, Cyber Insurance Manager – ACE Overseas General

ACE Group announced that Tim Stapleton has joined the company as Vice President and Cyber Insurance Product Manager, a newly created position, for ACE Overseas General, the company’s general insurance business outside of North America.

The bulletin said Stapleton would “focus on advancing and accelerating the development and execution of ACE’s cyber initiatives, a role that encompasses underwriting, strategy, product development, vendor management and providing leadership to ACE’s regional teams.”

He will be based in London, reporting to Timothy O’Donnell, Executive VP, Financial Lines, ACE Overseas General, and Toby Merrill, Sr. VP, Global Cyber Practice Leader. Stapleton will also join ACE’s Global Cyber Product Board.

O’Donnell described Stapleton as a “recognized subject-matter expert and leader in network security, privacy and cyber risk;” adding that he is a “strong addition to our growing, industry-leading cyber risk team.”

O’Donnell also pointed out that cyber risks are “challenging businesses” and “continue to become more complex and global in scale. We’ve become a global leader in this business by identifying and understanding emerging and evolving cyber risks, navigating different regulatory environments in markets across four continents, and meeting the unique and complex needs of both local and multinational clients.”

Merrill noted that “cyber risk exposures have no boundaries, and ACE is one of the few insurers capable of delivering truly global services to brokers and clients.” He added that Stapleton’s leadership in helping to coordinate ACE’s global cyber strategy” would bring together “expertise, underwriting capabilities and services of our existing cyber risk-related business units around the world.”

Stapleton has 12 years of underwriting and management experience in professional liability and cyber risk. He joins ACE from Zurich General Insurance, where he served most recently as Global Underwriting Manager for Professional and Management Liability, responsible for the development, implementation and maintenance of global technical underwriting standards, product strategies and guidelines for the company’s professional and management liability and cyber sublines.

Prior to that he served as Zurich’s Deputy Global Head of Professional Liability, where he developed and implemented technical underwriting standards for the company’s global professional liability portfolio. He began his career at American International Group as a senior underwriter for professional liability.

Stapleton holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Miami, Coral Gables. He is a member of the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) and holds the Certified Information Privacy Professional/US designation. He is also a member of the Professional Liability Underwriting Society.
