The burden of legal and regulatory liability may shift towards makers of self-driving cars but ultimately the cost of insuring this risk will be passed back to the consumer. I see a future time when auto makers offer consumers personal auto insurance protection to help offset the cost of their commercial liability policy premiums. Another case where technology could put more people in the unemployment line.
