Endurance Names Gallagher as Chief Risk Officer

September 22, 2015

Endurance Specialty Holdings, a Bermuda-based specialty provider of property and casualty insurance and reinsurance, announced that Christopher Gallagher will assume the position of chief risk officer and group actuary, effective immediately.

Gallagher succeeds Joan deLemps who announced her intention to retire from Endurance earlier this year. Gallagher’s appointment is subject to approval by the Bermuda Department of Immigration.

Gallagher joins Endurance from AXIS Capital where he has served as chief risk officer for the AXIS Insurance segment since 2007, responsible for managing risk, actuarial and catastrophe modeling functions on a global basis. Prior to that, Gallagher was a senior manager with Ernst & Young LLP from 2001 where he was a leader in their insurance and actuarial advisory practice in London. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and Statistics from the University of Glasgow and is a Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries in the UK.

John R. Charman, chairman and CEO of Endurance, commented, “Having worked closely with Chris before, I am delighted to welcome him to Endurance and our management team. His expertise will be extremely beneficial as we continue to enhance our risk framework and practices to support the increasing scale and complexity of our organization.”

He continued, “Joan is a recognized industry leader who has had a long and distinguished career, culminating in more than a decade contributing to the development of Endurance from our start-up phase to the global company we are today. I wish to thank Joan both personally and corporately for her insights and guidance as a valued member of our management team and wish her a long, healthy and happy retirement.”
