Swiss Re Names Baertschi President of Reinsurance – Latin America

Swiss Re announced that Urs Baertschi has been appointed to the new position of President of Reinsurance, Latin America, effective January 1, 2016. He will have overall responsibility for Swiss Re’s reinsurance business in Latin America region, which includes Mexico, Central America and South America. He will report to Swiss Re Americas President and CEO Eric Smith and will be a member of the company’s Americas Management Team.

Swiss Re said Baertschi “will split his time between Swiss Re’s Bogota, Mexico City, Miami and Sao Paulo offices. He is currently Managing Director, Head of Principal Investments & Acquisitions Americas for Swiss Re, and has “spent considerable time on Swiss Re acquisitions in Latin America,” as well as establishing relationships with client executives in the region.

Baertschi has been with the Principal Investments & Acquisitions unit since 2008 and worked with Securitas Capital, LLC/ Swiss Re Capital Partners and Cutlass Capital, LLC earlier in his career.

Smith noted that Swiss Re’s Latin America teams “have accomplished much in the past few years, including significantly growing the number of clients we work with and our premium volume;” adding that the group is “well positioned to meet our long-term goals in the region and Urs’ mandate will be to further build on this strong base.”

Baertschi noted that “Latin America is a very important growth market for Swiss Re and I’m looking forward to working with our clients and staff there.”
