CNA Hardy Continues U.K. Regional Expansion, with Opening of 5th Office

November 25, 2015

CNA Hardy* has further expanded its regional presence with the opening of its fifth U.K. office, in Birmingham, England. This marks the second U.K. office opening in 2015 for the London-based subsidiary of CNA Financial.

In addition, the company has made a number of appointments over the past few months to support its U.K. growth strategy.

Craig Jones-Newey has been appointed as regional manager for Midlands and the South West, based in Birmingham. Reporting to Elliot Miller, head of UK Regions, Jones-Newey will be responsible for the day-to-day operations in Birmingham, as well as developing the CNA Hardy brand and presence across the U.K. Midlands. He joins CNA Hardy from AIG.

Elliot Miller was appointed as head of U.K. Regions earlier this year, to develop and execute a strategy to build CNA Hardy’s presence outside of London, and to drive profitable growth from both a product and segment perspective.

Following Miller’s appointment, a number of significant hires were made in Manchester, England. Simon Hodgin joined from Sterling Insurance in May, becoming CNA Hardy’s regional Manager for the North.

Hodgin’s appointment was closely followed by Neil Stephenson and Matt Rigby, senior liability and property development underwriters, who joined the company from QBE. In addition, Lisa Raby was named professions underwriting assistant, joining the company from Willis.

Chris Thompson and Mark Armstrong were also recently appointed as life science, technology and cyber development senior development underwriters, joining from Chubb.

A new Glasgow office opened in August. Archie Johnson joined CNA Hardy from Zurich as property & casualty manager, supported by Senior Property Development Underwriter Stephanie Wilson and Underwriting Assistant Gemma Findlay, who both joined from QBE.

Andy Clements was appointed as distribution director, Europe. Joining from Travellers, Clements is now responsible for building effective and long lasting strategic relationships with the company’s broker partners. He also is “setting and leading a cohesive distribution strategy across CNA Hardy in the U.K. & Europe,” which will help to drive profitable growth across all products and industry segments, the company said in a statement.

Dave Brosnan, CEO CNA Hardy, said: “At CNA Hardy, we have the ability to write business in more than 200 countries and territories across the world, with a network of more than 75 offices. Part of our ethos is our belief in building enduring relationships with our customers and producers, and we can only do that if we are close to them. 2015 has seen us open two new offices, and hire a number of senior individuals, demonstrating our commitment to developing our relationships locally as well as to building scale outside of London.”
