Hamilton Underwriting Ltd., the managing agency of Lloyd’s Syndicate 3334, and the Lloyd’s operations of Hamilton Insurance Group, announced the appointment of two senior underwriters who will lead the syndicate’s planned product diversification.
Stuart Quinlan has been appointed to the positions of head of Professional Lines and deputy active underwriter, and Dr. Sima Adhya has been appointed to the position of head of Space.
They both will report to Hamilton Underwriting Ltd. Chief Executive Officer Dermot O’Donohoe, pending approval by Lloyd’s.
Quinlan joins Hamilton from Barbican Syndicate 1955 where he was responsible for all casualty insurance and reinsurance lines. Prior to this, Quinlan was chief underwriting officer, Europe, for professional lines at Zurich plc. He has also held senior roles at both Novae Group and Royal & SunAlliance.
Quinlan has a proven track record of building successful teams and writing profitable books of business, Hamilton said in a statement, noting that he has built “enduring broker relationships” in the London market for more than 25 years.
Adhya comes to Hamilton Underwriting Ltd. after four years as head of Space at Starstone (formerly known as Torus), and, prior to that, four years as head of Space at Sciemus, a data analytics and research-based underwriter. Adhya’s team consists of underwriters Mike Thorp and Jon Ashby, both of whom were also at Starstone.
Before joining the insurance industry, Adhya worked at QinetiQ, the former U.K. defense and research agency. She spent one year as a technical product manager for a radar detection system and two years as a space systems engineer, working on the operations team for a U.K. imaging satellite, and with the European Space Agency, working on asteroid deflection techniques.

I know their knowledge and experience will be invaluable as we prepare to launch our 2016 business plan on Jan. 1.”
Syndicate 3334, formerly a niche sports and leisure underwriter, was acquired by Hamilton Insurance Group on April 1 of this year.
