Chubb Forms ‘Custom Industry Solutions’ Product, Creates London Region

Chubb announced it has created a “Custom Industry Solutions” product cluster in UK and Ireland, which will bring together its life science, info tech, package and entertainment industry segments.

This new product cluster is designed to meet the evolving needs of brokers and customers in the UK and Ireland and further build Chubb’s presence in the middle market, said the company, noting that the Karen Strong, who previously was tech manager, UK and Ireland, will head the team.

Strong will bring together the company’s dedicated solutions in these areas and work “with her colleagues and other product heads to align expertise with market needs,” the company said in a statement.

She will continue to be based in London and will report to Sara Mitchell, head of Corporate Division, UK and Ireland.

Strong brings to the role over 30 years of insurance industry experience, the last 17 of them with Chubb. She joined the company in 2000 as senior property underwriter, subsequently serving in a number of underwriting and management roles in the areas of property, package and, since 2015, info tech.

New London Region

Chubb also has created a new London region to complement its structure in the four areas where it has local presence through regional offices: Midlands and the South; the North; Scotland; and Ireland.

Effective May 1, Emma Bartolo, currently environmental risk manager for the UK and Ireland, has been promoted to the newly created role of corporate regional manager, London. Reporting to Mitchell, and working with business line heads and underwriting teams on the ground, Bartolo will be responsible for the region’s financial performance, its growth strategy and driving the development of the middle market portfolio.

Bartolo joined the company as an environmental risk underwriter in 2008 before being appointed to her current role in 2013. Bartolo was recognized as Young Underwriter of the Year in 2014, has led extensive educational work with the broker and risk management communities and has played a key role in promoting diversity and inclusion within Chubb.

Environmental Risk Leaders

Effective May 1, Glenn O’Halloran, currently senior environmental risk underwriter, will succeed Bartolo as environmental risk manager for the UK and Ireland. He reports to Mark Roberts, who was recently promoted to the new role of chief underwriting officer for the UK and Ireland. O’Halloran will be responsible for the product line’s financial performance and will drive its continued growth and development across the UK and Ireland as well as Chubb Global Markets, the company’s London-based wholesale division.

O’Halloran has played a key role in the growth of the company’s UK and Ireland portfolio since his arrival in the UK in 2015, and has additionally had specific responsibility for the Irish portfolio for the last two years. O’Halloran joined Chubb in 2013 underwriting environmental risk in Chubb’s Sydney office and brings extensive industry experience from his prior experience as an environmental consultant.

Strong, Bartolo and O’Halloran will continue to be based in London.

The creation of these two new roles “will help us to further build on our strengths in the middle market,” said Sara Mitchell, head of Corporate Division, UK and Ireland, at Chubb.

“Chubb is well known for its specialist industry vertical expertise and bringing this together into one new Custom Industry Solutions team with dedicated leadership will help us to continue to innovate and build our proposition,” she added.

In addition, the Chubb’s “strong regional branch structure delivers true local presence to our broker partners and their clients,” Mitchell said. “Giving increased focus to London will allow us to better capitalize on growth opportunities with brokers in the country’s most populated region.”
