“Ever since lawmakers seized control of the Brexit process in a vote last week, concern has been growing among euroskeptics that Parliament will seek a softer withdrawal or even attempt to stop Brexit entirely.”
This is a travesty of democracy, the anti-Brexit campaigners using every avenue they can identify to thwart the democratic vote of the people at the referendum in 2016, including claims that the referendum was “flawed” and that it should be repeated, with increasingly loaded scare tactics, until the elites get the result they want. The US recognises the EU for what it is, an unelected supranational government that overrides national sovereignty, and should continue to support the UK’s exit, deal or no deal.
Agreed. Unfortunately, Theresa May has completely botched this entire process which has only emboldened her adversaries (Corbin, Blair etc.). At this juncture the Brits are unfortunately so terrified from all of the scare tactics that have been used that I think a second referendum would fail. Not to mention that the fragile shell of UKIP which remains is cannibalizing itself and the Tories are completely split on Brexit. I am very pessimistic that they will be able to pull this off. May’s Brexit strategy capitulated far too much to the EU. As a Brit I find this whole thing very sad.
