Edwards Named CEO of Aspen Insurance UK and Aspen Managing Agency

Aspen Insurance Holdings Ltd. announced that Clive Edwards has been appointed chief executive officer of Aspen Insurance UK Ltd. (AIUK) and Aspen Managing Agency Ltd. (AMAL), subject to regulatory approval.

Edwards succeeds Mike Cain who, as previously announced, has been appointed to the role of group chief operating officer.

With this appointment, Edwards will relinquish his role as co-chief underwriting officer of AIUK. Aspen has named Henry MacHale and Jamie Lewis as the co-CUOs for AIUK, for insurance and reinsurance, respectively, subject to regulatory approval.

Henry MacHale

MacHale will retain his role as global head of Specialty for Aspen Insurance and Lewis will retain his role as head of London, Aspen Re, and global product head for Specialty Re. Lewis will also retain his role as deputy active underwriter of Aspen’s Lloyd’s syndicate 4711.

“Clive was part of the original team at the outset of Aspen and has continually demonstrated an outstanding capability as an underwriting leader,” commented Mark Cloutier, executive chairman and group chief executive officer.

“His proven experience and expertise, and the high esteem in which he is held in the UK market, make him very well qualified to take on these roles,” Cloutier added.

Jamie Lewis

Aspen also announced that Hannah Purves has been appointed as a non-executive director of AIUK and it is proposed that she will join the board of AMAL in due course.

Purves was previously a board director and claims director at Markel International with responsibility for a claims team of over 130 people located throughout Europe, Canada, Asia and Latin America.

She also served as a board member and deputy chair of the Lloyd’s Market Association Claims Committee from 2014 to May 2019.
