A lesson to be learned from this epidemic is that CONCEALMENT of truth by Socialist /Communist governments is very dangerous when it involves public health risks, and decisions by individuals to exercise personal freedoms when it creates health risks to others.

The Chinese will suffer huge loss of life and economic damage that, hopefully, brings changes to the way they behave in these situations in the future. Not only did many people die unnecessarily, but many lost their jobs and their future.

Think also of the retailers and manufacturers that rely on Chinese made merchandise, materials, and replacement parts that will soon see their supply of materials, parts and goods to sell dry up over the next few months. Look at your phone; where was it made? Look at your big screen monitor, PC, kitchen appliance, etc. for the location where it was made. The COVID-19 tragedy is worldwide, and has spared no one.

The light at the end of the tunnel, however long the tunnel may be, is the experience from which we can learn to protect ourselves from such tragedies in the future.

As regards insurers and reinsurers; did ERM practices and pros anticipate such an event as COVID-19 in their scenario tests? SARS and H1N1 were clear signals that they should have included them in their table of conflagration perils.

Lots of xenophobic nonsense here as usual.

If it’s predictable that someone’s going to call your post xenophobic, maybe look at the content of your post. You literally just started rambling about Diblasio on another article to goalpost shift. Calling your post xenophobic is on topic when you’re ranting about China. Bringing up Diblasio? Not really on topic.

There is no xenophobic nonsense in my post. The only ‘usual nonsense’ is immaterial content in your reply.

The Chinese government concealed the extent and severity of the virus. Nothing you say to the contrary will make people believe your lies.

Many people already lost their lives and livelihood. Some small businesses around the globe may never recover. Supply chains have been interrupted for many industries. People around the globe will not rely on one source of goods and raw materials in the future. Independence will be more greatly valued than dependence.

Go to Ali Express and DH Gate and Amazon now and order some stuff you’ve been wanting .
It all comes from China. There will be some good deals to be had. Lack of demand means lower prices. For those of us still getting paid, there will be bargains galore. This is not a morally normative statement, it’s just a fact.

The demand increase you suggest, plus redux of supply of materials and component parts, will increase price.
Market equilibrium is as certain as the Sun rising in the East and setting in the West.
