Lions Gate Underwriting, the Vancouver-based specialist managing general agent, has launched a new Environmental Insurance product as part of its coverage offering.
The program is being underwritten by Great American Insurance Group, which backs a number of Lions Gate products, and is managed by Rod Spurrell, managing director of the Toronto Branch at Lions Gate.
The program focuses on contracting services and the pollution conditions resulting from them. The wording includes errors and omissions arising from associated professional services, which traditionally required a separate policy.
Coverage can be offered on either an occurrence or claims made basis, said Lions Gate. This program will be available for premises and operations across Canada and the United States. Spurrell previously led the Environmental Program at Markel Canada prior to joining the Lions Gate Toronto team in September 2019, according to his LinkedIn profile.
“We are pleased to be offering this innovative product in Canada, which we have designed with several features new to the Canadian market,” said Spurrell.

Lions Gate Underwriting is a specialist MGA launched in 2015 by BMS Canada Risk Services, the Canadian subsidiary of the independent specialist insurance and reinsurance broker BMS Group Ltd. Lions Gate focuses on the Canadian, Latin American and Australian markets.
