Great (sarcasm)! It would seem a “simple” mandate or law to require all shippers to retrieve their lost containers, and assume liability for the subsequent waves of garbage that eventually washes onshore, might be one way to mitigate this issue.

Making product manufacturers and shippers mutually responsible for ensuring safe passage and shipment of their cargo — and not insurers — should be a no brainer. I guess there is no such thing as risk management in shipping . . . more sarcasm . . . sigh.

    A: Davy Jones locker.

This story is as old as sea travel itself.

Prior to Covid, the world had a “rhythm” to it with respect to commerce. Nothing was perfect but supply & demand, shipping, manufacturing, and pricing seemed to have a balance to it. It’s amazing how Covid has interrupted this – shortages of shipping containers, bicycles, puppies, rental cars, houses, and more.

Just more evidence that mankind doesn’t control everything on this planet. The only thing we can control is the acceleration of how we continue to destroy this planet. I wonder how much of that cargo was actual necessities that were lost at sea versus unnecessary junk that people keep buying through online retailers? It’s obvious how much we hate this planet and how much we hate ourselves without even saying a single word. All our actions point directly to how much we really don’t care anything about life here. Money is always part of the equation when it comes to having to fix things or talking about doing the right thing. Life existed long before money became a factor. They talk about how many billions of dollars it will take to clean the oceans but forget that the oceans are the main reason life exists on this blue marble. Money shouldn’t be a factor but we are fixed on a fictitious regulator (money) and continue to let real world problems spiral out of control towards irreversible consequences (if we’re not already there). Let’s just continue to worship our God that’s called MONEY. As you were.

        knowall,
Ever heard of New Zealand? Why didn’t the virus spread during lockdowns in countries who had administrations who actually took this seriously? And, why did the virus quickly spread again once they opened their doors? Why do you stay home when you are sick? How does a virus work? It needs a host, right? If it can’t jump from host to host, it cannot survive and mutate, correct? Are you going to get vaccinated?

You are not going to stop this virus, doesn’t matter how much money the government prints
