European Commission Delays Aon-Willis Decision Until August

The European Commission competition panel has moved its decision date for the Aon-Willis Towers Watson merger by five business days from July 27 to August 3.

The commission is investigating whether the combining of the two large players in the markets for commercial risk brokerage services, re-insurance brokerage and retirement and health and welfare services to commercial customers could significantly reduce competition in those markets.

The EU decision date change comes days after Reuters reported that the EU is expected to grant conditional approval of Aon’s $30 billion bid for Willis the merger.

Aon has offered concessions to the European Commission to the facilitate deal.
