People Moves: BMS Australia Hires Gallagher’s Van Dugteren, Aon’s McKenzie; elseco’s Warren to Oneglobal; Miller Appoints WTW’s Goreham to Lead Construction

This edition of International People Moves details appointments at three brokers: BMS, Oneglobal Broking and Miller.

A summary of these new hires follows.

BMS Australia Names Gallagher’s Van Dugteren, Aon’s McKenzie for Financial Lines

BMS, the independent specialist insurance and reinsurance broker, announced the appointment of Guy Van Dugteren as national claims and technical manager, financial lines, in Australia. Additionally, BMS confirmed Andrew McKenzie’s appointment as head of financial lines, Northern Region, in Australia.

McKenzie and Van Dugteren are based in Brisbane and report to Stuart Davies, head of financial lines at BMS Australia. Both assume their roles effective immediately.

Van Dugteren will lead BMS’s Australian Financial Lines Claims and Technical function and brings with him more than 15 years’ experience as an admitted insurance lawyer. Prior to joining BMS, Van Dugteren worked at Gallagher, where he held the role of manager, national technical claims. Before this he served as a solicitor at Colin Biggers & Paisley, where he gained extensive experience in corporate governance, D&O risk advisory services, insurance policy advisory services, construction disputes, claims management audits and professional indemnity claims.

Andrew McKenzie

McKenzie joins BMS in Australia from his most recent role as director of specialties at Aon, where he also led Aon’s Financial Services Group. With more than 25 years’ experience in the insurance sector, McKenzie brings to BMS in Australia a wealth of industry experience and a deep understanding of the risks facing financial institutions, professional service providers and the boardrooms of corporate Australia. Prior to McKenzie’s 19 years at Aon, he was the specialty insurance lines leader at Marsh for eight years.

elseco’s Warren Named CEO of Oneglobal’s Middle East Operation

Oneglobal Broking, the London-based specialist international broker, has appointed Matthew Warren as CEO of Oneglobal Middle East and will operate from Dubai International Financial Centre, Dubai, UAE.

Warren will report directly to Oneglobal’s Group CEO Mike Reynolds.

Warren’s appointment will contribute to Oneglobal’s strategy to build out its operations across the region and will be another step towards its growth plans following the opening of the Netherlands and Bermuda this year.

Warren is a highly experienced business leader with more than 35 years in the insurance industry and will shortly be leaving his current employer, elseco Ltd., having held the position of chief operating officer. Warren has also held senior leadership positions at Talbot Underwriting, Investors Guaranty Group, Lloyd’s of London, Marsh and more, having begun his career at English & American, ILU London.

Owned by financial services private equity firm JC Flowers, Oneglobal Broking was founded in 2018 following the merger of the SSL and Endeavour insurance broking houses. The broker focuses on the placement of open market and delegated authority business, across marine, aviation, property, casualty and specialty lines.

Miller Names Willis’ Goreham as Head of Construction

Miller, a London-based independent specialist re/insurance broker, announces the expansion of its construction practice, targeting growth in UK, international/wholesale and renewables construction and surety lines. To lead this expansion, Pauline Goreham has joined Miller as head of Construction with immediate effect, with Steve Cox and Jon Burke joining later in September.

Goreham brings 30-plus years of insurance industry experience, of which more than 20 have been dedicated to construction with experience across UK construction, infrastructure and renewables.

Goreham joins Miller from Willis Towers Watson, where her most recent position was UK Construction and Project Risks Practice Leader.

Cox will be joining as an account executive/producing broker and will focus on UK construction business, working alongside Dave Cahill to further expand this specialty area, which was launched at the end of 2020. Cox has 40 years’ experience in construction and joins Miller from WTW where he held the position of Deputy Leader of the UK Construction Practice.

Burke will join as account executive/broker focusing on UK construction in support of Cox and Cahill. Burke joins from WTW where he was account director in the UK Construction Practice. His expertise includes experience across contractors, standalone projects and energy from waste projects in the UK.

Cox and Burke will report to Goreham, who will report to Martin Henderson, head of Energy.
