W.R. Berkley Corp. Appoints Heads of MECC

J. Michael Foley was named chairman of the board and chief executive officer of Midwest Employers Casualty Company, a subsidiary of the Greenwich, Conn.-based W. R. Berkley Group. Foley, 44, is a founder of MECC, where he has served as president since 1992.

In his new role as chairman and CEO, he will focus on other strategic opportunities for MECC aside from its specialization in workers’ compensation.

Succeeding Foley as president of MECC is Melodee J. Saunders. Saunders, 37, joined MECC in 1991 as an actuarial pricing manager and advanced to vice president of actuarial in 1995. She most recently has served as senior vice president of MECC. She has been in the insurance business since 1985 and is a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society.

W. R. Berkley Corporation is a holding company which, through its subsidiaries, operates in all segments of the property/casualty insurance business. The Company’s operating units are grouped for management purposes into five segments according to market served: Regional Property Casualty Insurance, Reinsurance, Specialty Insurance, Alternative Markets and International.
