Although this won’t be a popular opinion, you don’t stand a chance if our government has you in their crosshairs. Irregardless of what Segal did – his ultimate intentions were to fix the situation that had occurred and he had support of some pretty strong friends (big insurance carriers) offering to help him. NO one would have been hurt financially or otherwise has this been allowed to happen. If the gov’t really wanted to help…they could have fined Segal endless (you hurt people with money by taking that money) and hand him his walking papers out of the insurance business. Instead, the endless resources of the govt. (our tax dollars) are being used to make a point. Just like the Marth Stewart debacle, to make a point. The costs we pay would be better suited to make a point on stopping the future Enrons and Worldcoms (those people are bad guys). Instead of playing Monday morning quarterback and posturing to make points, our govt should understand that bad people will always be around to do bad things. Perhaps they should be more pro-active and less reactive and I am guessing we’d all save alot of money.

ps – has anyone at Ins. Journal heard of the NJ insurance broker who pleaded to theft of $78.8M…..now that’s a story.
